It was never meant to grow.

The unit was decommissioned decades ago—left dormant, its processes stripped back to silence. Dust settled into its seams, circuits cooled, and the structure became just another forgotten fragment embedded in a larger system that had already moved on.

Then something took hold.

Not violently, not all at once—but slowly, insistently. Filaments found their way into openings never designed to receive them. Moisture gathered. Heat returned in small, irregular pulses. The machine did not wake, but it began to host.

What emerged was not quite plant, not quite system. A hybrid persistence. Roots threading through circuitry, drawing something unseen from what remained inside.

The blooms arrived last—soft, luminous, almost indifferent to the architecture beneath them.

No one restored the machine.
Nothing repaired it.

It simply became something else.
